The Challenge

Dataroid’s objectives included the migration of their production and test servers running at local data centers to AWS. This migration was driven by their desire to reduce data center costs and leverage the reliability, high availability, and scalability of AWS infrastructure.

Dataroid had several key motivations behind their migration to the cloud. Firstly, they aimed to make the most of the cloud’s scalability and multi-availability zone capabilities, allowing them to seamlessly adapt to fluctuating workloads and guarantee the high availability of their services. Dataroid has partnered with Commencis to help accelerate its move to the cloud, and the next phase of migration and modernization was guided by the AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) methodology.

Commencis designed and implemented a robust AWS Landing Zone (LZ), meticulously crafting a well-architected account environment and governance framework tailored to support AWS workloads. This framework included rigorous security, operational, and internal compliance rules, ensuring both optimal performance and adherence to industry standards. Following that, Commencis managed the comprehensive migration of Docker Swarm nodes, orchestrating the process with the AWS Application Migration Service (MGN). This encompassed rigorous testing, validation of desired outcomes, and the formulation of knowledge transfer plans to facilitate a seamless transition and knowledge sharing.

AWS WAF (Web Application Firewall) provides an essential layer of security, safeguarding their web applications against threats and attacks. The flexibility of custom security rules and real-time monitoring ensures they have the tools to control access and respond swiftly to security incidents. Meanwhile, CloudFront accelerates content delivery, optimizing the user experience by reducing loading times and improving reliability through a global network of edge locations. S3 (Simple Storage Service) offers Dataroid scalable and durable storage, adapting to their evolving data needs while maintaining cost-efficiency through a pay-as-you-go pricing model. Its comprehensive data management features, including versioning, replication, and lifecycle policies, provide efficient control over their data.

Furthermore, AWS CloudTrail records all AWS API calls, offering Dataroid a robust audit trail for monitoring user activity and resource changes. AWS CloudWatch provides real-time insights into the performance and health of their AWS resources, enabling proactive issue resolution and resource optimization through automated actions and alerts. Collectively, these AWS services empower Dataroid with enhanced security, content delivery, storage scalability, cost-effectiveness, and operational insights, bolstering the reliability and performance of their applications and infrastructure.
