Where Internships Become Careers: Stories from the Commencis Future Commencer Summer Internship Program
Future Commencer is our six-week summer internship program at Commencis. Every summer, we bring in a group of students to work hands-on with our engineering and design teams – contributing to real projects, getting mentorship from day one, and experiencing what it’s actually like to ship software in a fast-moving environment.
To date, 90+ interns have continued their journey at Commencis, returning as part-time contributors and eventually joining the team full-time. Here are a few of those journeys.
Voices From the Journey
I joined Commencis as an Android Developer intern in 2021, and today I’m continuing my journey here as an AI Product & Delivery Manager. From my very first day, I never felt like ‘just an intern.’ I was welcomed into the team, encouraged to share my ideas, and supported by my mentor while working on a real-world project. Seeing that project grow step by step and eventually being used internally made the experience incredibly motivating and meaningful for me.
After my internship, I was excited to join Commencis full-time as an Android Developer and become part of such a young, curious, and dynamic team. Along the way, I grew both professionally and personally, learning by doing and taking on more responsibility with every step. What I value most is how Commencis supported me through important career decisions and encouraged me when I wanted to shift my focus toward product and delivery. This support led me to my current role in the AI team.
My advice to interns is simple: be curious, speak up, and take initiative — your ideas matter here, and if you’re willing to put in the effort, Commencis will always support your growth.
In the summer of 2023, I was so excited to join Commencis as a Design Intern. Today, being one of the members contributing to the development of the internship program feels unreal. Being on both sides of this journey shows me once again how valuable this structure is.
My journey with Commencis, which is approaching its third year, has been insightful in every aspect. From the beginning of my internship, I felt that I was learning something new every day and growing together with the amazing team I was a part of. Starting this journey as a Part-time UX Designer after my internship and now taking on the role of Specialist UX Designer is the strongest proof of my growth.
At Commencis, mentorship is not something that is limited to the internship period. On the contrary, having our managers closely follow and guide our career development makes me feel confident that I can reach much greater milestones. My mentors during my internship are now my colleagues — proof that I am always growing in an environment full of talented and creative people. My journey at Commencis began in 2024 as an intern in the Flutter team. From day one, I was involved in a finance project, which later turned into a part-time role alongside my university studies. This balance taught me invaluable time management skills, supported deeply by my teammates.
Stepping into a full-time role was a turning point. It wasn’t just about coding — it was about owning the product. I contributed to and navigated real-world challenges that helped me grow from a student into a professional engineer. I had the chance to share my findings on new technologies and even do presentations, which was a major confidence booster. Watching my contributions directly help the project grow was incredibly rewarding.
The culture here is what sets it apart. The festivals and activities made every step of the journey enjoyable. My advice to newcomers? Stay curious, embrace the challenges, and treat everyone around you as a mentor. There is a wealth of knowledge and experience in this team.
