A study on how to leverage app store ratings and reviews for successful product roadmapping

User insights are one of the most critical factors ensuring product trustworthiness and contributing to its success. App ratings and reviews influence people's decisions to download apps. Therefore, it is quite evident that combining, structuring, analyzing, integrating, and monitoring user feedback is required to develop meaningful products. There are 1.96 million apps available for download on the Apple App Store, 2.87 million apps available for download on the Google Play Store, and around 220,000 apps available for download on the Huawei App Gallery. Despite the high number of downloads, recent research indicates that 50% of mobile users do not consider downloading apps rated 3 stars and below. In this report, we aim to share our journey of discovering new sources of “data” that help draw insights about digital product success. We also aim to present our learnings about how to leverage this new space using sentiment analysis. We will additionally show you how to integrate insights into product management practices, especially roadmap planning. In this report, we covered the following topics:
