When AI agents enter design work, the first instinct is usually to have the agent draw a screen. But design teams expect something more: they want the agent to read the file’s current state, understand the context before making any change, and check its own work back against the file.
We built Commencis Relay MCP for exactly this need. Relay is an agent-agnostic local bridge that runs between Figma and AI agents, Codex, Cursor, Claude Code, Claude Desktop, VS Code, or any client that speaks about MCP can use the same layer. The agent reads first, then writes, and verifies every change back against the live file.
Getting an agent to truly join your team’s practice isn’t just about granting it file access. It requires a working setup where you can see what the agent does, verify its results, and understand how it recovers when something breaks. That’s the shift we wrote about on Medium.
