The position in a nutshell

Cloud Engineer (Kubernetes) is responsible for designing and deploying high performing, reliable and scalable production environments for production in cloud or in hybrid cloud. (S)he is expected to deliver and improve automation in infrastructure, integration, and deployment.

An ideal candidate is someone that is a self-driven technical resource who is comfortable coding and delivering solutions, as well as driving technical recommendations to peers based on technical analysis and evaluations.

(S)he will be responsible for the overall health of multiple applications and their operating environments while interacting with development team members to design and deliver the applications with high availability and stability.

Responsibilities

• Deploy and maintain critical applications on cloud-native microservices architecture.
• Design and implementation of cloud-based services running on cloud infrastructure and ensure that they meet the business objectives and adhere to service level agreements (SLA).
• Implement automation, effective monitoring, and infrastructure-as-code.
• Investigate new techniques, tools, methods that might increase efficiency among engineering & technology and cloud teams, as well as leading execution processes of topics evaluated & planned for roll-out.
• Collaborate with other technical leaders and business stakeholders to align all constraints and come up with solutions regarding project/product/initiative outputs.
• Perform pre-sales consultancy by supporting status quo in client meetings, help the client decide the solutions & service in alignment with expectations, help Account, New Business & Engineering stakeholders to define strategy & offerings (specific to a project)
• Be accountable for the reliability and security of cloud infrastructure and services.
• Provide visibility of performance, cost, and the security of cloud infrastructure and services.
• Drive continuous improvement, continuous delivery, and lean practices within the cloud team.
• Keep up to date on modern technologies and trends and advocate for their inclusion within products when it makes sense.
• Identify emerging technology solutions that reduce cost, increase efficiencies, enhance capabilities, reduce risk, and improve security.
• Ensure that all cloud technology applications create a positive customer experience.

Qualifications

• BS/MS degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering or related fields
• 2+ years of experience in Kubernetes (must have)
• 3+ years of experience in CI/CD tools (like Jenkins, Argo CD, GitHub Actions, GitLab) and infrastructure automation (like Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible)
• Proficiency in Unix/Linux, Windows operating systems, knowledge in shell scripting (like bash, sh, zsh)
• Experience with cloud native applications and containerized systems
• Knowledge of distributed systems and microservices architecture
• Knowledge of Kubernetes networking
• Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools (like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK)
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
• Experience of working in scrum teams.

Nice to have

• Experience in Managed Kubernetes (like Tanzu, OpenShift, EKS, GKE, AKS, etc.)
• Experience in hybrid-cloud environments
• Leading DevOps teams
• Programming in Go, Python, Java, JavaScript
• Certification in Kubernetes (like CKA), Cloud Service Providers (AWS, Azure, Google)
• Knowledge of cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, GCP, Alibaba Cloud, etc.
• Experience with Relational Database Systems (like MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server)
• Experience with In-Memory Cache Systems (Hazelcast, Redis, Memcache, etc.)
• Experience with NoSQL Databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.)
• Experience with service mesh (Istio, Linkerd etc.)
• Publishing articles on Medium, LinkedIn and/or contribution open-sourced projects.
